Porsche Cajun to be built in Leipzig

By ,

Last November, Porsche announced plans to launch new models in order to boost its sales potential. At the time, we learned that the first product to join the fold would be an entry-level SUV called Cajun .

Today, the German automaker said that production will take place in Leipzig, where the Panamera and Cayenne are currently manufactured. More than 1,000 jobs will be created this year as the plant undergoes expansion.

Aimed at younger drivers, the Porsche Cajun will share its platform with the Audi Q5 and sport two doors only. It will directly rival the Mercedes-Benz GLK and Range Rover Evoque, among others.

Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2013.
