Porsche 's PCM 3.0 communications system has been hailed as 'exceptionally user friendly' and given an award for its design, development and ease of use.
PCM 3.0 is the central control unit for all audio, navigation and communications functions in the German automakers vehicle lineup. It's just won the USE-WARE Award from VDI/VDE-Gesellschaft Mess-und Automatisierungstechnik, in recognition for providing owners with simple, quick access to functions that keep them on course, entertained and in touch. Porsche says that VDI, the Association of German Engineers, is the equivalent of the Society of American Engineers (SAE) in North America. The updated PCM 3.0 system features a larger 6.5 inch touch screen, iPod and Bluetooth compatibility, XM Nav Traffic and a more intuitive and less distracting menu interface. A 40-gigabyte hard drive stores navigation data, and the system can be controlled via voice command if desired. Standard MP3 players and USB memory sticks can be played as well.PCM 3.0 cuts redundant dashboard buttons by half, and gives drivers what they need in far less time than previous versions did. Porsche stresses that despite the update, long-time owners will still be familiar and comfortable with the system's new functions and menu structure. photo: Porsche
