Quick interview with Don Romano, President of Mazda Canada

After 6 consecutive years of record sales, are you confident for a seventh one in 2007?
Donald Romano, President of Mazda Canada
Yes, because with the new CX-9, which will be on sale in two weeks, we're entering a new vehicle category. Our sales record last year was obtained despite a vehicle shortage; we had problems supplying dealers, but that should be resolved now. Will Mazda get a hybrid version of the Tribute like the Ford Escape? No. The Tribute will be on sale in three weeks, but it won't get a hybrid version because we won't be able get enough powertrains. What's next for Mazda? New 3 and 6 models should appear in 2008 as 2009 models. Are you planning to enter the subcompact market soon? There is a new model in Europe called the Mazda2, but we believe that the car just isn't zoom-zoom enough for Mazda Canada. If and when we decide to introduce a subcompact here, we will make sure that it fits with the rest of Mazda's lineup.
