Local favourite Steeve Hobbs and co-driver Jean-Mathieu Tremblay have won the first edition of the Rally Fjord Saguenay this past weekend, the opening round of the 2011 Quebec Rally Championship.
Hobbs and Tremblay, driving a Subaru Impreza WRX, crossed the finish line only 23 seconds ahead of other local driver Simon Dubé, co-driven by Pat Lavigne, in a Volkwagen Golf GTi.
Dubé and Lavigne were the winners of the two-wheel drive division - the Jon Nichols Cup -finishing the event more than four minutes ahead of their closest rivals, Philippe Roberge and Éric Lachance, in a Honda Civic.
In the Production Division, Quebec Cup, Sylvain Bazinet and David Legault, also in a Honda Civic, had the best over Éric Deschênes and Tony Tremblay's Toyota Yaris.
Twelve of the 17 teams that started the rally completed the event. The 2011 season has a total of five events to its calendar.
