Recall for 2006-2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX 400h

Last week, Toyota Canada Inc. has announced a voluntary safety campaign on some 1,505 Highlander Hybrid and 1,476 Lexus RX 400h units. A recall notice was registered in Transport Canada's database on June 29th.

Inside the hybrid system inverter, there is what the company calls an Intelligent Power Module that contains a circuit board with transistors. Some of the transistors weren’t soldered properly and could be damaged by heat caused by high-load operation.

If it’s the case, warning lamps will illuminate on the instrument panel, and in most cases, the vehicle will enter a fail-safe driving mode. When that happens, power is reduced and the vehicle can still be driven for short distances. In certain cases, the power supply circuit fuse could blow, and the vehicle will come to a stop.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail in July. Customers may contact their local dealership or call Toyota Canada (1-888-TOYOTA-8) or Lexus Canada (1-800-26-LEXUS).
