2027 Rivian R2: Official Driving Range Reaches 531 km in Canada The choice of wheels and tires can make for a 37-km swing in range for the two listed Performance AWD configurations.

Natural Resources Canada now displays official driving range ratings for the 2027 Rivian R2. The electric SUV delivers a range of 531 km in its Performance all-wheel-drive trim equipped with 21-inch wheels. A second configuration, fitted with 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, is rated at 494 km.

These figures provide the first official Canadian data for these two R2 configurations, with the local launch slated for 2027 on the manufacturer’s website.

A 37-km difference
The choice of wheels and tires results in a 37-km gap between the two listed configurations, representing roughly 7 percent of the range offered by the model riding on 21-inch wheels.

Combined energy consumption follows the same pattern. Natural Resources Canada indicates a rating of 2.2 Le/100 km for the R2 Performance with 21-inch wheels, compared to 2.4 Le/100 km for the version equipped with all-terrain tyres. This unit measures energy consumption in litres equivalent of gas, even though the vehicle operates purely on electricity.

In detail, the first configuration posts 2.1 Le/100 km in the city and 2.5 Le/100 km on the highway. With the 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, those values adjust to 2.2 and 2.6 Le/100 km, respectively.

Both listings apply specifically to the Performance AWD model; these results should not be applied to the broader R2 lineup.

A smaller footprint than the R1S
The R2 seats five passengers across two rows. Its 4,722 mm of length makes it 378 mm shorter than the R1S. Rivian advertises a ground clearance of 245 mm and a towing capacity of 1,996 kg (4,400 lb) when equipped with the appropriate trailering package. The Performance version also receives a semi-active suspension setup.

Regarding charging, the R2 features a NACS port granting access to compatible Tesla Superchargers. Rivian quotes a 10-to-80 percent charge in 30 minutes on a DC fast charger under optimal conditions. This charging figure remains a manufacturer estimate, distinct from the official range figures published by Natural Resources Canada.
