At $50 Per Donation Each Employee Only Needs to Deposit 400 Times
Troubled automaker Fiat should take notice of what ARO, a small heavily indebted Romanian carmaker, is doing to repay its many outstanding creditors and remain solvent.

In the "sometimes truth is stranger than fiction" category, ARO is asking employees to donate sperm and then donate the money made to the car company. The wacky plan was conjured up after plant officials heard a news story stating that a local Timisoara fertility clinic was offering donors the equivalent of $50 per visit.

Considering that the average monthly wage in Romania sits at about $150, many of the male workers at the Campulung plant might just be reconsidering their long-term employment at ARO with the prospect of getting a $50 per month raise just by donating sperm once each week.
Just the same ARO's trade union has done a feasibility study to pay off its $20 million debt. According to Ion Cotescu, trade union leader at ARO, "Our feasibility study shows that if 1,000 workers donate their sperm for several months, we can get enough funds to pay part of the plant's debts."
