The retro aspect of the motel is respected to the max. It’s impossible, for example, to find an ice machine on site and there are no telephones connected in the rooms. Though of course, since the advent of mobile phones, that’s much less of a potential drama. Meanwhile, reservations are handwritten in a notebook at the reception desk, which only opens at 3 or 4 p.m. And don’t go looking for three-way power outlets in the teepees.

The motel is located on the last section of Route 66 when you travel from east to west. Located approximately 570 miles from the Santa Monica, California dock, the establishment would be one of your first stops if you’re traveling in the opposite direction. Be sure to make reservations, however, as spaces, at least in normal times, tend to fill up quickly.

Many tourist attractions are located in the vicinity of the Wigwam Motel. Among them is the petrified forest where you can marvel at the sight of thousands of fossilized tree trunks. Not far from Holbrook is also the celebrated Grand Canyon, a must-see spot when in this part of the United States.
