Saab turns green!

By ,

Following its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, the Saab BioPower E100 will make its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show (April 6-15, 2007). It's the first turbocharged concept vehicle to run on E100 fuel (100 % pure bioethanol). Saab has already produced a BioPower E85, which is currently Europe's best-selling bioethanol-powered vehicle.
The Saab BioPower E100 is based on the 9-5 SportCombi wagon. Its interior features white leather-appointed seats and carbon fiber accents. The car also include the AlcoKey immobilizer system that prevents the engine from starting if the driver fails the alco-test. This system is being tested and could soon become optional in Sweden. In production trim, the Saab BioPower E100 uses a 150-hp, 2.0L engine. Meanwhile, the concept delivers 300 hp, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. All this is achieved, obviously, with the least amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
