Shelby GT500 aims to make history at Goodwood

In order to pay tribute to the late Carroll Shelby , who passed away on May 10th, Ford will showcase the almighty Shelby GT500 this weekend at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Along with the iconic Zakspeed Capri, the Shelby GT500 will try to eclipse the 1.16-mile Goodwood hillclimb speed record of 41.6 seconds set by Nick Heidfeld in 1999.

Its 5.8L all-aluminum supercharged V8 produces 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful engine ever fitted to a North American production car. The Shelby GT500 can reach a top velocity of more than 200 mph (320 km/h).

The model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will also benefit from a Performance Package featuring electronically adjustable dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential, plus a Track Package including three additional coolers for all-out racetrack performance.
