Spa 24 hours: Scuderia Italia Porsche took a surprise win

By ,

The Scuderia Italia’s Porsche 997 driven by Dumas-Bergmeister-Henzler-Ragginger clinched victory in Spa 24 hours race, although BMW dominated the event.

BMW was closed to the victory after the german brand led from the start of the race, but the leading factory M3, driven by Dirk Werner, went off 40 minutes to the end, probably after a mechanical failure. The german driver was able to reach the pits to fix the damages of his car. The Porsche 997, which was running second, took the lead and clinched victory.

It was even a 1-2 for the brand from Stuttgart, as the IMSA Performance 997 moved up to second, ahead of the unlucky M3 driven by Werner, Adorf and Muller. The second factory M3 driven by Alzen, Muller and Lamy took 4th position, ahead of AF Corse Ferrari F430 that Michael Waltrip shared with team mates Cioci, Kaufmann and Cadei.
