Tesla to reveal the Model X in January 2012

By ,

We’ve been waiting with bated breath for the launch of the sublime Model S, and now we learn that Tesla is planning to lift the veil on its first-ever crossover, the Model X, at the Detroit Auto Show.

The president and CEO of the American manufacturer, Elon Musk, says he’s very satisfied with the work of his designers and he believes that the automotive capital of the word is the perfect stage for its unveiling.

So what can we expect?

Musk said the Model X will offer the most interior volume in the class, so we’re probably looking at a seven seater.

It’ll be built on the same platform as the Model S, that luxurious, high-performance, 100% electric machine that can dash from 0 to 100 km/h in under six seconds and features a range of 260, 370 or 480 km.

High performance and generous torque are no doubt on the menu, the latter being typical of electric power trains.

Barring a stunning turnaround, the crossover’s world premiere won’t be leading to an immediate market launch, as Tesla has already noted the model won’t be available before 2014.
