The new Mitsubishi Outlander unveiled at the Paris Motor Show

By ,

Mitsubishi is launching its new Outlander PHEV at the next Paris Motor Show, held September 29 to October 14.

The Outlander PHEV is Mitsubishi's first rechargeable hybrid – the Japanese brand is adamant the petrol/electric hybrid option was the smarter choice over diesel for the global market.

The Outlander PHEV will also be the first ever four-wheel drive electric vehicle in series production.

At the front are two engines – an electric and a petrol one – propelling the front wheels. At the back, is a second electric motor. The vehicle can therefore be driven according to three different modes, combining the three engines: the all-electric Pure , the petrol engine-supported Serie and the electric motor-supported Parallel .

According to Mitsubishi, the Outlander PHEV has an 800-kilometre range and its carbon dioxide target is below 50g/km.

No word yet on the car's performances or price range. It should arrive in European dealerships starting some time in 2013.
