Too late for reunification

As we stated last week, Tony George, boss of the Indy Racing League offered to Champ Car co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe financial assistance to try and unify open wheel racing under one umbrella. George, though, tells the Indianapolis Star he offered to help Champ Car teams acquire a new car and a used backup for every driver who committed to a full IRL season with adequate sponsorship. He was clear in saying that any team that wanted to join in had to commit full time for two years. George also made it clear that the IRL would be the sanctioning body in any unified series.
