In the world of Volvo, “Recharge” means “electrified” – either fully or in PHEV form. The XC60 is a plug-in and makes use of a 2.0L gas engine that comes both turbocharged and supercharged. Add the rear-mounted EV motor, and you’ve covered all the bases when it comes to powertrain types in today’s car and light truck world.

In the XC60 (and its XC90 bigger sibling), AWD is achieved not with a driveshaft, but with that EV motor as it’s the only way to get power to the rear wheels. That means there’s no driveshaft to infringe on interior space, and no delay in activating the rear wheels as EV power delivery is instantaneous, requiring no transmission delays. That means more confidence when the going gets steep or slippery, and in this game, that’s hugely important.
