5 – Nissan Kicks

Many wondered why Nissan went to the trouble of producing and introducing the Kicks last year when it was still working to establish another new small SUV in its lineup, the Qashqai. But give credit where it’s due, Nissan has managed to sell over 20,000 subcompacts combined to Canadian consumers since the start of 2019 – 8,522 of them the Kicks.

The reason we include this model and not the Qashqai is simply that it’s more visually distinctive and its driving dynamics more positive than its stablemate.

From our review:

“Opting for an economical car no longer has to mean making big compromises, and the Nissan Kicks is Exhibit A. It edges close to being THE ideal vehicle for younger-generation buyers who want advanced tech, eye-catching colours and good fuel economy in a ride that can actually travel beyond city limits.”
