The Toyota Prius all-wheel-drive version hit the market after our 2018-2019 winter season, so it didn’t get that much attention here. But with the return of colder temperatures, it’S going to get its turn in the spotlight.

The intrinsic qualities of the Prius hybrid model are already well-known, particularly in terms of comfort and its fantastic fuel economy. Factor in the AWD and you get a drive that’s frugal, practical and confidence-inspiring, 12 months out of the year. Reassuringly, the addition of all-wheel drive has not overly affected the performance of the Prius in terms of fuel consumption.

From our first encounter with the Toyota Prius Prime AWDe:

“Toyota’s all-wheel-drive system is actually perfectly suited to the Prius. The automatic on-demand system doesn’t require a centre differential or any other torque-apportioning device, nor does it need a front-to-rear driveshaft. And the reason is simple: the AWD system is electric.”
