Best mid-size SUV: Kia Sorento
For expanded families, or for those used to lugging friends and teammates around, a 7- or 8-passenger SUV constitutes a less-stultifying alternative to the famous/infamous minivan.
In this category, the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander are definitely strong candidates, but the sticker price each comes in diminishes the overall value they offer. In fact, it means they get nipped at the finish line by the Korean entrants. The Kia Sorento, for example, is becoming a favourite of families with young children. It offers very good quality overall, both inside and out. The two currently available powertrains – Kia is planning to introduce a turbo-diesel variant in North America shortly – are well-suited to the model’s chassis and dimensions.
