In 1956, Swedish carmaker Volvo was present for the first time at the New York Trade Fair, held that year at the newly built Coliseum. The Coliseum would serve as a convention centre until 2000.

As for the Scandinavian models on display, there was the Saab Sonnet, but also the Saab 93B coupe and a certain Volvo PV444, a model that would allow the company to establish itself in North America.
