In fact, Subaru is betting that its second Crosstrek Hybrid will be a little more successful than the first, which used a conventional hybrid powertrain. With a rechargeable setup, it's possible to drive solely on battery power; unfortunately, you won’t get all that far on a charge.

Two-Row SUVs – Best for Road Trips: Subaru Forester
The Subaru manufacturer is a regular presence on this honours list put together by Parents magazine. The Forester was deemed the ideal vehicle for road trips, thanks in part to its standard all-wheel drive, roof rack and exemplary comfort. You could even add that the Forester's fuel consumption has been very good for the past few years, a fact that's been made possible by the adoption of a continuously variable transmission.
