A Canada-only version of the Cambridge, Ontario-built Corolla compact car will go on sale across the country later in May. Toyota Canada says the 2005 Corolla Special Edition will be ''nicely equipped and aggressively priced.''

On the matter of price, the sticker on a Special Edition with the five-speed manual shifter will be $18,755. If the customer wants the four-speed automatic with the same package, the price goes to $19,800On the issue of equipment, Tony Wearing, one of the three Managing Directors at Toyota Canada, says the Special Edition is more than a Corolla CE with a ''B'' option package.Even before the addition of the Special Edition features, Wearing explains, the Corolla CE equipped with the "B" option package gets air conditioning, keyless entry with power door locks, a four-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system, power remote outside mirrors, a digital dual-trip odometer with outside temperature gauge, and a tilt steering wheel.Equipment added to the Special Edition includes a power sunroof, unique 15-inch alloy wheels and wheel locks, and distinctive Special Edition decals, Overall, says Wearing, the Corolla Special Edition is ''is priced less than similarly-equipped offerings in the segment.''The Special Edition Corolla gets a 1.8-litre, DOHC inline-four that develops 130 hp at 6,000 rpm and 125 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm.
