The FJ Cruiser is a tribute to Toyota's legendary FJ 40 and Land Cruiser. It is built on a modified Tacoma platform. This Concept vehicle is aimed at young buyers but should also appeal to older crowds that will instantly recognize the headlight/grille setup. Its off-road capabilities should be excellent thanks to a 4WD system with low-range and 33" tires mounted on 20" wheels. The FJ Cruiser will be perfect for rock-climbing as well because of a proportionally long wheelbase, a wide track and long-travel rear coil-over suspension. Power comes from a supercharged 3.4L V6 engine that develops 250 hp. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Exterior features include side-view mirror spotlights, a retractable two-piece rear window, front towing hitch and rear access doors. Other notables are a removable portable GPS device and a TRD cat-back exhaust system.Toyota has announced that the FJ will go into production in 2006, although it will be different from the concept. It will be powered by Toyota's newer 245-hp 4.0L V6 engine.
