Toyota still fast in NASCAR tests

Now that the Rolex 24 is over, NASCAR Sprint drivers travelled to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for more testing, a track that is much like the third of all the NASCAR venues. It came as no surprise to see a Toyota Camry running the fastest time in the morning as Denny Hamlin went 178.265 mph with his No 11A Camry. As far as our Canadian drivers are concerned, Patrick Carpentier went "only" 173.455 mph, the 60th fastest speed of the morning while Jacques Villeneuve could not do better than 171.772 mph, the 63rd speed of the morning (as many drivers used their second car to establish a second speed). In the afternoon, winds picked up to about 100 kph (60 mph). Some drivers were affected, others not. At any rate, the three first fastest speeds were posted by Kyle Busch (Toyota Camry no 18) at 183.580 mph, Tony Stewart (Camry No 20B) at 182.426 mph and again by Tony (Camry No 20 A) at 182.334. Still looking for speed, Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10A) posted the 57th speed at 178.359 mph while Jacques Villeneuve (Camry no 27A) who spun wildly without hitting anything could not do better that the 63rd fastest speed at 178.018 mph. Sam Hornish wrecked one of his cars (Dodge No 77A) so did David Ragan (Ford No 6A). Drivers will hit the track again in Vegas on Tuesday before moving to Fontana, California on Thursday and Friday.
