The all-new 2007 Toyota Tundra has been navigating North American roads for 4 months now. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until some 5.7L V8 engines experienced engine failures.
So far, camshafts in 20 engines have snapped. Toyota has determined that there was a metallurgical defect in the casting. According to Toyota, the flaw in the metal has been addressed. To this day, 30,000 of these engines have been built. Toyota needs only now to determine if there are more camshaft issues out there. They do note that should this problem occur on anyone's truck, the entire engine shall be replaced. The 5.7L, which was only supposed to become available this summer, represents over 70% of the total engine mix which includes the 4.7L V8.
