By ,

Olivier Panis (Skoda Favia) takes win in the second day of 2011/2012 Trophée Andros’ opening round in Val Thorens. The former F1 driver takes the championship lead before Andorra.

Panis, who took fourth place in overall classification on Saturday, dominated the qualifying heats ahead of reigning champion Jean-Philippe Dayraut (Mini Countryman) and Jean-Baptiste Dubourg (Renault Clio III).

Olivier Panis took victory in his final heat ahead of Dubourg and Evens Stievenart’s Dacia Lodgy. The other final heat was won by Dayraut ahead of Franck Lagorce (Skoda Fabia) and Alain Prost (Dacia Lodgy). Olivier Panis took victory in overall standings of this second day, ahead of Dayraut and Dubourg.

Jacques Villeneuve had a better performance on Sunday after his disappointing first day, where he suffered a mechanical failure in qualifying, which forced him to start from the back of the grid in his final heat.

The Canadian driver set the fifth best performance in the first qualifying heat, and took 9th place overall in the qualifying heats cumulated. Villeneuve took fourth place in his final heat (which was won by Dayraut), and finished 8th overall at the end of the day.

In provisional championship standings, Olivier Panis takes the lead after the first meeting of the season, while Benjamin Rivière, who took a surprise win on Saturday, took a disappointing 14th position on Sunday. Jacques Villeneuve moves up to 10th in championship classification.
