VIDEO: Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept in Detroit

Presented at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept shows off its three-mode powertrain that consists of a turbocharged, 2.0L inline-four, an electric motor and an integrated starter/generator, all managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The combined output of the gas-electric XC60 is rated at 350 horsepower. The three selectable driving modes are PURE, HYBRID and POWER; PURE provides up to 105 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent, or 2.3 L/100km) for a distance up to 54 km, HYBRID allows a fuel consumption average of 4.7 L/100km, while POWER helps the vehicle accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
