Volkswagen is reportedly set to hire former FBI director Louis Freeh to resolve the emissions crisis, according to Reuters . Freeh will help in negotiations with U.S. authorities, which recently filed lawsuits totalling $20 billion against the German automaker.

A supervisory board committee gathered today to discuss the matter.

Ironically, a federal judge in California said on Monday he planned to appoint another former FBI director, Robert S. Mueller, to help settle more than 500 cases against Volkswagen.
