Volkswagen ID.4 to Debut at Next Chicago Auto Show VW’s first ID product, the Europe-only ID.3, was just introduced at the Frankfurt auto show

Volkswagen recently brought the first model in its ID all-electric line of vehicles, the ID.3, for show and tell at the Frankfurt auto show. Now it appears that the company will present a second electric ID vehicle next February at the Chicago auto show. The Volkswagen ID.4 SUV, based on the ID. CROZZ concept we’d seen previously, will be destined for the North American market.

The automaker quietly confirmed only its intention of unveiling the model next February, but as that happens to be when the next Chicago auto show is taking place, it’s safe to assume that’s where the reveal will happen.

The confirmation came from VW’s head of sales and marketing Juergen Stackmann during an event to mark the debut of the ID.3. That model, we already know, will be offered only in Europe.

As for the SUV, the ID.4 name is still only unofficially the moniker it will carry. We do know it will be based on the ID CROZZ concept we’ve seen pop up at various auto shows in recent years. The production version will feature styling more traditional than that prototype, and focus more on interior space than on coupe-style sportiness.

This ID.4, or whatever it will ultimately be called, is the first ID product destined for the North Americna market to see the light of day. Volkswagen wants to have it on the market late in 2020, which might give it a head start on Tesla’s Model Y, another highly anticipated EV.
