Volkswagen’s head of research and development Ulrich Hackenberg has confirmed that the Bulli concept presented at the Geneva show recently will serve as the basis for a production model set to take on the Scion xB in North America.
The new model is currently code-named MQB and rests on a flexible platform allowing wheel base and track modifications. This versatility will enable the German automaker to create several variants of the Microbus to cater to different markets worldwide.
According to Mr Hackenberg, the third-generation Audi A3 will be the first product of the Group built on this base.
