Rumours have been circulating throughout the last few months concerning BMW possibly purchasing the Swedish luxury brand from Ford. There are a number of questions that surround the possible acquisition of Volvo by BMW such as why would "Super Independent" BMW want to associate itself with a carmaker that competes widely with itself. Also, BMW practically swore off purchasing car companies after having owned Land Rover, which left the Bavarians almost feeling ill. In Ford's portfolio, Volvo is certainly the brightest star. At no point has Volvo been officially announced as being for sale, however, Bill Ford has clearly stated that "Nothing is sacred". The purchase of Volvo by BMW would certainly help Ford along with their restructuring plans, thanks to the influx of lots of cold hard cash from the sale.BMW is extremely well-off at the moment, having consistently beaten sales record after sales record. For Volvo, the merger could be very fruitful as the brand seems to be getting closer to something big. BMW's very full vaults will certainly be an asset.
