Volvo and Microsoft team up for holographic system

By ,

As part of a joint venture to develop next-generation automotive technologies, Volvo and Microsoft will work on HoloLens technology to redefine the new-car buying process, more specifically how customers first encounter and explore a car, as well as how cars might be bought and sold in future.

Using a wearable computer in typical virtual-reality fashion, you can make hand gestures to check a vehicle from every angle, focus on specific details, and even add options.

“HoloLens offers the freedom to create a bespoke experience which customers can steer themselves. Imagine using mixed reality to choose the type of car you want – to explore the colours, rims, or get a better understanding of the features, services and options available,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Marketing Sales and Service at Volvo Cars.

He didn’t say when HoloLens will be available to Volvo customers, however.
