When nuclear energy was seen as the future of the automobile (video)

By ,

Lately, the media has been reporting serious damage to Japanese nuclear plants following the earthquake and tsunami. Around the globe, authorities and the public are now questioning the use and future of atomic energy.

Did you know that in the 1950s, manufacturers such as Ford actually envisioned cars powered by small reactors? This sounds silly now, but at the time, people all over the world were fascinated by the potential of nuclear energy, even though the dangers remained unknown.

With that in mind, here's an interesting video featuring yesterday's cars of tomorrow that never made it to production – thankfully.

Enjoy!
