World premiere of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive

By ,

The all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive, unveiled this week at the New York International Auto Show , uses an electric motor, charger and lithium-ion battery supplied by Tesla Motors.

Based on the standard B-Class, the Electric Drive model offers a dynamic design and upscale interior. The 100 kW (134 hp) motor propels the car from 0-100 km/h in less than 10 seconds, and up to a top speed of 160 km/h.

Range is estimated at 200 kilometres. The charging time for a range of about 100 kilometres is less than two hours at 240 V. Moreover, the system converts kinetic energy into electric current on the overrun and during braking, and feeds this energy into the battery (recuperation).

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will be available in the U.S. starting early next year. Other markets such as Europe will follow. No word yet on Canada.
