WRC: Disappointment for Kris Meeke

By ,

Autosport.com confirmed british rally star and MINI driver, Kris Meeke will not take part in a full WRC campaign in 2012, because of a lack of funding.

It’s a though break for Meeke, a former Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion, who already had to sit out a few rounds last year, because 2011 was the inaugural year of the Prodrive MINI WRC program.

The rounds he will miss include the much-awaited Monte Carlo comeback rally.

"[Dani] Sordo will do every rally, but Kris Meeke won't. He will still test for the team, but he misses Monte Carlo. The second car will be driven by local drivers," confirmed the british magazine’s sources.

Meeke however, remains part of the team. His contract with BMW/MINI runs until 2013.

"Kris is part of the team and an exceptional driver," said the source. "We want to see him in the MINI on every round possible next year."
