The two Ford factory drivers now lead the race, with Mikko Hirvonen 9.5 seconds ahead of his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala. Petter Solberg, driving a private Citroen, stands in third position, 40 seconds behind Hirvonen.

The rain that appeared earlier in New South Wales area, South West of Australia, brought a lot of mud on the roads, and very slippery surface. "Every time you brake, it's like ice, it was unbelievably slippery," said Hirvonen.
