WRC: The Rally Monte Carlo put back WRC calendar

By ,

The legendary rally Monte Carlo will be back in the World Rally Championship in 2012, after three seasons as a round of the IRC.

Since 2009, the Monte Carlo rally was run as the opening round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The World Council of the FIA has confirmed Friday that the event will be the first event of the 2012 WRC championship.

Additionally, the FIA has postponed the debut of the Abu Dhabi Rally in the WRC. The event may be replaced by another one next year. For now, the WRC calendar has been increased to 13 rounds, including an Italian event, which has still to be determined.

Amongst the new rules that will be implemented in 2012, the starting order for the opening day of each gravel rally will be determined on Thursday, as the quickest drivers of the shakedown will choose their starting position on Friday.

Finally, the leading cars will now start legs two and three in reverse order the following day.
