The Chevrolet Bolt remains a niche car in the United States where only 8000 units have been sold since the beginning of the year

It is often said that there is no such thing as luck, and yesterday's news about an anticipated increase in the production rate of the Chevrolet Bolt is a good example. This news comes right about the same time that Tesla announced that they have met its desired goal of seeing 5,000 units of it's Model 3 built each week.

Interesting coincidence, right?

It's clear that Tesla is making things happen in the electric car universe.

Since the beginning of 2018, only 8,000 Bolts have been sold to our southern neighbours. The Model 3 order book has 420,000 orders awaiting delivery.

GM said, however, that demand for the Bolt has seen strong growth globally since January, and sales are up 40%, compared to 4% at home in the US market. This is the reason they want to increase production by 20% in the fourth quarter.

"Demand for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, especially in the United States, Canada and South Korea, has outstripped production," says GM's US sales VP, Kurt McNeil. "The extra production coming on line should be enough to help us keep growing global Bolt EV sales, rebuild our US dealer inventory and bring us another step closer to our vision of a world with zero emissions."

The best news in all of this, whether it's Chevrolet, Tesla, or any other electric car manufacturer, is that consumers are adopting them in greater numbers.
