EcoDrive, a new software developed by Microsoft for Fiat, was introduced at the 62nd Frankfurt International Motor Show. With this innovative solution, Fiat wants to demonstrate that an automaker's environmental responsibility should not stop when the car leaves the production line but extend into the way consumers drive their cars. Ultimately, the goal is to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
These emissions depend on whether the car is driven in a rural or urban setting and on the condition of the car. And they are also heavily affected by driving habits. Installed on a PC, EcoDrive will present the driver with detailed information on the environmental performance of the car including the CO2 emission level for each trip. It will also analyze the driver's style and then provide tips and recommendations on how to effectively achieve CO2 reductions -- and save money on fuel.
By using this software, drivers will be able to set performance goals and make their driving style greener. EcoDrive will be available in 2008 in certain Fiat models equipped with the Blue&Me system.
