Elio Motors, which began working on the P5 prototype last June, unveiled the result this week at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. This unique three-wheeler is set to go on sale by the end of 2016 at around $6,800 USD ($9,000 CAD).
The P5 is motivated by a 900cc triple-cylinder engine that IAV specifically developed for Elio Motors. It can reportedly sprint from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 9.6 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 100 mph (160 km/h). Longer and more aerodynamic than its predecessor, this latest prototype also looks more futuristic. The cabin has been upgraded on several fronts including a lower rear seat that increases headroom, and a higher armrest for more comfort.
So far, more than 47,000 people have shown interest in purchasing the P5, and they are anxiously waiting for the release of the production model to make their order. According to Elio Motors, some 1,500 jobs will be created directly at its Louisiana plant, not to mention over 18,000 jobs indirectly.
