Year after year, Rinspeed comes back with original models defined by unusual features. After the submersible Lotus presented at the Geneva show in 2008, the automaker is back in 2011 with the BamBoo.

Designed for the city or the beach, it seats four, rides on an aluminum chassis and is garnished with a polymer composite body. Note the inflatable, waterproof and removable roof that doubles as a flotation device.

You guessed it, the BamBoo is geared towards the younger crowd. It includes tech features like a high-end stereo and a 7-inch PC tablet built into the dash. The grille can also change colours according to your mood. Green, for instance, could trumpet your single status, while blue would mean you’re looking to party.

Shod in 17-inch wheels wrapped in low rolling resistance tires, the BamBoo is powered by a 72-hp electric engine that allows for top speeds of 120 km/h and a range of approximately 105 km. Designer Frank Rinderknecht even thought to include a folding electric bike in the rear cargo area, in case of a stall.

Rinderknecht revealed that Rinspeed is currently negotiating with a few companies potentially interested in producing a limited quantity of the BamBoo.
