Reinventing the automobile?

LYNK & CO, the new Geely-owned Chinese auto manufacturer, has made plain via its unique business model its desire to create the most-connected vehicles in the world. This week at Auto Shanghai 2017 it launched the production version of its 01 SUV, and introduced its brand-new 03 sedan concept.

The 01 has much in common with the upcoming Volvo XC40 crossover, no surprise given that Geely also owns the Swedish car manufacturer. The XC40 is expected to hit the market between now and this coming fall.

The LYNK & CO 01 will come with four different engine options to choose from: a 1.5L 3-cylinder generating around 180 hp, a hybrid system based on that same 3-cylinder (220 hp), a 4-cylinder turbo (240 hp) and a 100% electric version.

Interestingly, LYNK & CO has also stated its intention to provide online-sales, home-delivery and car-sharing services for the Chinese market (on a membership basis), not to mention a lifetime warranty. It remains to be seen whether any or all of these services will be available to Canadian consumers when LYNK & CO vehicles begin arriving here sometime before or in 2020.
