It's called "Commitment 2009", and it's a plan for carmaker Renault to launch new vehicles and new technologies to allow their brand reach an ever-wider group of consumers across all of its markets.

With the Paris Motor Show 2006 in full swing, Renault will unveil three prototype machines this week to the public. The prototypes fall within the framework of their commitment plan, and are just a few of the 26 machines that will take part. Changing consumer perspectives of the quality of the product and the service are important for the new machines at the show.

Environmental concerns are important for the consumer as well, so Renault has offered twin-biofuel powerplants, with both a bio-ethanol and bio-diesel engine available.

Twingo Concept

With today's youth in its crosshairs, the Twingo concept foreshadows the upcoming production model which will go on sale in the spring of 2007.

Powered by the new TCE 100 (1.2 litres, 100 horsepower, turbocharged) engine, the Twingo is a multimedia masterpiece, which includes a centre console designed for multimedia playback through Apple's I-Pod as well as connectivity with Nokia's smartphone. It's even got a mixing board on the dash, as well as internet connectivity, a retracting screen and a webcam.

A styling exercise, the Twingo rides on 17 inch dark chrome wheels and has a large panoramic sunroof and pillarless doors to ensure a bright and airy driving experience.

The Twingo is sure to be a hit among style-conscious DJ's all over Europe.

Koleos Concept

Looking ahead to a 4WD machine Renault is planning to sell in early 2008, the Koleos concept enters the rugged world of four-wheel-drives with the roominess and comfort of a crossover vehicle.

Renault says that with the 4WD system and 2.0 litre diesel engine, the Koleos ensures comfort and capability whatever the road surface. Power is put down through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The machine rides on 19-inch wheels and an elevated ground clearance which indicate its adventurous side, while a twin exhaust system hints at the cutting edge engine under the hood.

The interior features four independent leather seats to maximize luggage space for the occupants, who can all easily see and read the plethora of information displayed by the Koleos's multimedia and data system which tracks environmental variables like gradient and atmospheric pressure.

A full compliment of features is designed to make Renault's new ATV useful and safe in everyday driving situations. The rear hatch has a split door, and is designed to be a comfortable seating location for picnics or resting. The all wheel drive system was developed with Nissan, who Renault credits as being an expert. They say their machine will display flawless traction in any situation it is called upon for. Stability control, antilock brakes, emergency braking assist, hill down control and hill start assist are included with the selection of electronic driver aids.

Since Renault's "commitment 2009" plan is concerned with having the brand appeal to a wider market, the Koleos is certainly destined to play an important role.
