Saab Turbo X unleashed with 280 hp and XWD at Frankfurt

Saab has been a world leader in turbocharging for three decades now, and they've decided to celebrate. At this years Frankfurt International Motor Show, the brand will launch the Turbo X- a driver-focused performance machine which sets new standards for the American-owned Scandanavian carmaker.

The Turbo X features various aerodynamic upgrades as well as performance enhancements to boost excitement and presence. Visually, it is intended to evoke the original iconic appeal of the first black 900 Turbo which was launched 30 years back- and wound up being a benchmark in the industry.

For 2008, power comes from a turbocharged 2.8 litre, 24-valve V6 with a twin-scroll turbine and total output of 280 horsepower. To truly pay homage to the original model, an "all systems go" indicator light is included, as well as a replica of the original car's boost gauge.

Saab's revolutionary Cross Wheel Drive (XWD) handles power delivery through a sophisticated electronic system with e-Differential, intended to firm up the vehicle's grip on the road and stretch the performance envelope even further with enhanced response and stability.

The Turbo X comes as a sedan or SportCombi wagon, and is available with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Saab says the order book is now open, and the first units will ship to customers in the spring.
