Endurance: ACO and IMSA extend partnership
The two big rulemakers in endurance racing have signed a contract extension that formalizes their collaboration for the next five seasons.
ACO and IMSA have agreed on a number of changes that should help bring the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the United SportsCar championship closer. In 2017, they will introduce new prototype regulations that will govern the top class of each series. But as early as next season, the GTD category in America will be replaced by a FIA GT3-spec class. Similar changes the same year are expected to sync the GTLM and GTE cars. "This partnership will make it easier for our top teams to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and for top international teams in Prototype and GT racing to join us for our marquee events such as the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring," said IMSA Chairman Jim France. "We are very delighted to strengthen even more our partnership with IMSA," added ACO President Pierre Fillon. |
