Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard is to wear a special Stefan Bellof tribute helmet during the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, round 2 of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship.
Bernhard tweeted a photo of his specially decorated helmet, saying: “Special helmet for Spa in memory of Stefan Bellof, one of the greatest German sportscar drivers”.
Bellof lost his life 30 years ago at Spa-Francorchamps.
The young German was racing in Formula 1 for Tyrrell, and was also racing a Porsche 956 for Brun Motorsport.
On September 1st 1985, Bellof’s and Jacky Ickx’s Porsches collided before Eau Rouge, sending Bellof’ car straight into the concrete wall.
