Another first for NASCAR and it happened again in Montreal as the Nationwide drivers qualified under the rain Saturday afternoon for the Napa Auto Parts 200 to be held Sunday afternoon at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Australian Marcos Ambrose (Camry No 47) grabbed the pole followed by points runner-up Carl Edwards (Ford No 60). Note that Edwards who wanted to participate with Ambrose in the preceding Rolex Grand Am race could not do so because he crashed the car very heavily during…the warm-up lap! Last year’s winner Ron Fellow (Chevy No 5) qualified third followed by road course specialist Boris Said (Ford No 09) and a surprising Brad Coleman (Camry No 20). Ex-Formula One champ and crowd favourite Jacques Villeneuve (Camry No 32) ended up sixth. The biggest disappointment was to see the other fan favourite, Patrick Carpentier (Camry No 99) who finished second in the two first Nationwide races held in Montreal, not doing better than the 42nd time.
