The world has changed since the full-sized Sequoia was released back in 2000. At an LA Autoshow press conference yesterday, Toyota discussed how they've reacted to these changes in order to create a completely new SUV with a focus on efficiency, performance and comfort.

It's all new for 2008. A new body rides a new chassis, while an updated interior boasts many new features. Power is available from a new 5.7 litre V8 engine with over 400 lb.-ft of torque mated to a six-speed transmission. Extra care in hydraulic pressure management and gear-teeth finishing has ensured the transmission shifts smoothly and quietly. Towing capacity is rated at 9000 lbs.

Four wheel drive models come with a two-speed transfer case and lockable Torsen limited-slip differential to tackle slippery situations with ease. Four wheel drive modes are selectable electronically by a dash-mounted dial.

The new Sequoia is now wider, taller and longer than the previous model, while boasting significant comfort for even folks of well above average height. Heated leather seating surfaces are available with power adjustments, and a multi-function steering wheel offers controls for the climate, audio and Bluetooth systems- so important features can be activated without the driver removing his hand form the steering wheel.

Fully flexible seating easily folds and splits to accommodate any combination of passengers and cargo with ease. Further enhancing comfort and peace of mind is a cabin air-filtration system and a full arsenal of airbags and electronic stability features.

The list goes on and on, but one thing's certain-Sequoia is going to shake up the market in a big way when it goes on sale.
