Nissan to invest US$45 million for new subcompact production

Aguascalientes, Mexico - Nissan is investing US$45 million to upgrade its Mexican production facilities to prepare for the launch of a new 1.5-litre, fuel-efficient subcompact, as reported by the Green Car Congress.

In January, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn announced that the company planned to produce and sell a new compact car in North America, possibly in 2006. The car will use the chassis from the March, a popular model sold in Japan, and a 1.5-litre engine co-developed with Renault.

Nissan's Mexican plants currently produce 300,000 cars and 100,000 trucks each year. The planned extension will boost annual output capacity to 400,000 vehicles, including 100,000 subcompacts.

Enfin, une nouvelle petite voiture. Après la nouvelle Echo en octobre, la Honda Fit en février, voici une Nissan (le Cube ou Cube Cubic ?) de petit format en Amérique ! À moins que Nissan utilise la nouvelle Clio III légèrement modifiée comme ils le font déjà au Mexique. À suivre !

Ça fait juste 2 ans qu'on en parle pour la remplacement de la Sentra et par le fait même amener un suppositoire en Amérique.

Ouin, j'espere juste qu'ils vont prendre un modele sous-compact existant comme la Cube ou la March/Micra et l'assembler tel quel a l'usine au Mexique plutot que de donner du boulot a leur equipe de design du Michigan pour faire un modele exclusivement pour l'amerique du nord.

Non pas pentoute, très abstrait C'est quoi le modèle ? Ils ne savent même pas encore à part que c'est la plate-forme March. Cela en dit long. :roll:

Cette investissement là va servir pour augmenter toute la production, une partie seulement va servir pour la sous-compacte...

La plateforme de la March... la même que la Clio III... Je parie sur la Platina nouvelle génération.

So? Ils vont faire comme GM ou Ford ou Chrysler, c'est-à-dire ramassé un chassis quelque part dans le monde et mettre une carrosserie et un intétieur sobre à l'américaine.

LOS ANGELES -- Two small Nissans for the United States will be built in Mexico.

A three-door hatchback arrives next summer and a sedan comes in early 2007, sources say.

Nissan Motor Co. had said it will add two small cars to the U.S. lineup to compete with Scion, Toyota Motor Corp.'s youth brand. The boxy Nissan Cube and the Tiida sedan, both sold in Japan, were considered prime candidates but were rejected.

"The Cube was canned because it's too small," one source says. "The Tiida is too Japanese for this market."

The hatchback is based on the Sport Concept, shown at the 2005 New York International Auto Show in March.

The sources say the hatchback and the sedan will be built at Nissan's plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The sedan will account for 60 percent of the total. The plant also will build some units for Mexico, Europe, Canada, and Central and South America.

A redesigned Sentra is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in the summer of 2006.

One source says there is talk of expanding the Aguascalientes plant.

Nissan spokesman Kyle Bazemore says: "We said that we would be bringing a B-segment car to the United States" smaller than the Sentra. "But we are not yet ready to say where it will be built."

Ça ressemble à une Tiida 3 portes... Pour la berline, je pense que ce sera la prochaine génération de Platina (Renaulu Clio 3 volumes).
