BMW is preparing a number of new 3-Series variants for launch within the next two years. The most-discussed newcomer is the 3-Series Convertible - and now, TCC has the latest prototype shots of the new vehicle, clearly showing that it will sport a retractable steel roof.
The prototype's roof is visible in each of these shots. It has three sections that will fold neatly into the trunk. The front and rear end of the convertible prototype are still under some disguise, but it is expected that the convertible will have its own front-end styling to make it look sportier than the four-door.
While the normal hardtop Coupe is to be launched at the next Geneva Motor Show in March 2006, the Convertible variant is due a year later in 2007.
Power for the Convertible comes from a variety of six-cylinder engines ranging from a 180-hp four to BMW's new 258-hp, 3.0-liter six. An M3 Convertible will get a 4.0-liter V-8 delivering around 400 hp.
