Drôle de joint-venture alors que VW est concurrent de Mercedes mais bon il y a déjà des ententes GM-Toyota, GM-Honda, etc... qui existent.

Giant German carmaker Volkswagen and Detroit auto group Chrysler are joining forces to build a new minivan in the U.S., industry sources said Monday, as VW battles to arrest slumping sales in the intensely competitive American market.
A contract between VW and Chrysler, which is the U.S. offshoot of transatlantic carmaker DaimlerChrysler AG is due to be formally signed at next week's Detroit motor show. A VW spokesman declined to comment.
Under the deal, Chrysler is to build for VW a mini-van using Chrysler's Voyager as the basis. The new car is to hit the U.S. market in 2008.
At present, VW, which is Europe's biggest carmaker, does not offer a model in the US key mini-van market.
The annual number of new Volkswagen mini-vans to be produced for the US is expected to be between 35,000 and 45,000. However, it has so far not been decided which Chrysler factory is to build the new model. The chief of the Volkswagen brand, Wolfgang Bernhard, was previously a leading Chrysler executive. The move to build the new mini-van comes in the wake of tough times for VW in the U.S. with sales falling by 15.5 per cent to about 198,000 in the months from January to the end of November in 2005 compared to the same period in the previous year.
VW is expecting to have finished last year with a loss in the U.S. last year of about one billion euros (1.18 billion dollars). VW chief Bernd Pischetsrieder has already warned of another grim set of results from the competitive American market in 2006.
Ahead of the arrival of the new mini-van, VW plans to launch its luxury Phaeton onto the U.S. market this year. But already demand appears to be falling short of expectations.
With this in mind, VW has signalled that it intends to focus on the market launch of new models of its Jetta and Passat brands which are the carmaker's key models in the US.
